Melvin D. Zeldin

Environmental Consultant

 

Melvin D. Zeldin is a nationally recognized expert in the field of air monitoring programs, air quality data analysis, and air program management, and he currently serves on two important national committees: (1) the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) Subcommittee on Particulate Matter; and (2) the National Monitoring Strategy Committee, a strategic alliance of federal, state, local, and tribal representatives dedicated to constructing a new focus in national air monitoring programs.

 

In 2001, Mr. Zeldin retired from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), where he was Assistant Deputy Executive Officer for Science and Technology Advancement.  In that capacity, he was responsible for the overall operation of the air monitoring, laboratory, and source testing functions.  Prior to his promotion to the executive staff, Mr. Zeldin served as the Director of Planning, where he had overall responsibility for the development of the 1997 Air Quality Management Plan.

 

Over his 32-year career, Mr. Zeldin has been involved in many key technical programs and studies, and was one of the key individuals in planning and conducting the MATES-II hallmark air toxics study in the South Coast Air Basin.  Previously, Mr. Zeldin also had the lead responsibility for the PM10 program, including the development of the PM10 State Implementation Plans for both the Coachella Valley and South Coast Air Basin.

 

Mr. Zeldin has a degree in meteorology from U.C.L.A.  In 2002, the Air and Waste Management Association presented him with the S. Smith Griswold Award for outstanding contributions to the prevention of air pollution by a government agency staff member.  He currently serves as a technical consultant to CAPCOA.
