John Alvarez is the Vice President – Americas for ChevronTexaco. He started with Chevron Research Company, 1977, and has worked as Engineer in Process Design, Business Analyst in Corporate Planning, and Team Leader in Process Planning. He spent 6 years in Caracas, Venezuela in Business Development for Chevron Overseas Petroleum. For the last two years, he has been on loan to the Sasol Chevron global joint venture, pursuing Gas-to-Liquids projects in Latin America from the Caracas office, then moving to San Ramon, California to handle business in all of the Americas.

He has both a B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and served as Engineering Duty Officer in U.S. Navy.
