Dave Smith

Dave Smith originally started
working for ARCO, now a BP company, 30 years ago after graduating with Honors
from Michigan State University
with a Masters in Chemical Engineering.
Dave started designing processing units for ARCO’s
refineries where he first got involved in designing some of their first air
pollution equipment. Transferring to an
Environmental Engineering Group, Dave has held a variety of increasing
responsible roles in the company’s health, safety and environmental
organization. In the last 15 years Dave
has focused on the laws and regulations related to the production, handling and
use of BP’s fuels. He has been on the
team that has rolled out the company’s clean slate of fuels including the first
reformulated gasoline in 1990, CARB diesel in 1993, low sulfur gasoline,
ultra-low sulfur diesel in 2000, and the recent phaseout
of MTBE in California
gasoline.
