Dave Smith originally started working for ARCO, now a BP company, 30 years ago after graduating with Honors from Michigan State University with a Masters in Chemical Engineering.  Dave started designing processing units for ARCO’s refineries where he first got involved in designing some of their first air pollution equipment.  Transferring to an Environmental Engineering Group, Dave has held a variety of increasing responsible roles in the company’s health, safety and environmental organization.  In the last 15 years Dave has focused on the laws and regulations related to the production, handling and use of BP’s fuels.  He has been on the team that has rolled out the company’s clean slate of fuels including the first reformulated gasoline in 1990, CARB diesel in 1993, low sulfur gasoline, ultra-low sulfur diesel in 2000, and the recent phaseout of MTBE in California gasoline.
