ACRONYMS AND DEFINITIONS

Ammonia   a pollutant often emitted from biological activity which is a precursor to the formation of PM10 and PM2.5.
APCD   Air Pollution Control District
AQMD   Air Quality Management District
BACM   Best Available Control Measures (applies generally to non-traditional sources)
BACT   Best Available Control Technology (applies generally to traditional sources)
BARCT   Best Available Retrofit Control Technology (applies generally to traditional sources)
BMP   Best Management Practices
Btu   British Thermal Unit (a measure of energy output)
CAPCOA   California Air Pollution Control Officers Association (an organization comprised of the air pollution control officers from all 35 local or regional air pollution control districts/air quality management districts within California)
CMP   Conservation Management Practices
D.O.V.   Dried on the Vine
ICE   Internal Combustion Engine
Non-Traditional Sources   sources of emissions which are not collected, vented, and controlled through a stack or other collection device.  Examples of non-traditional source emissions include fugitive dust, fires, and woodsmoke.
NOx   Oxides of Nitrogen (a class of nitrogen and oxygen containing compounds, some of which are considered harmful [e.g., nitrogen dioxide, or NO2], and which react in the atmosphere to form ozone, particulates, or other harmful pollutants)
PM10   Particulate Matter less than 10 micrometers in aerodynamic diameter.
PM2.5   Particulate Matter less than 2.5 micrometers in aerodynamic diameter.
RACM   Reasonably Available Control Measures (applies generally to non-traditional sources)
RACT   Reasonably Available Control Measures (applies generally to traditional sources)
ROC   Reactive Organic Compounds (often used interchangeably with VOC)
Traditional Sources   sources of emissions at stationary facilities where such emissions can be collected, vented, and controlled usually through a stack or other collection device.
VOC   Volatile Organic Compounds (which are precursors to the formation of other pollutants, such as ozone or particulates)
