Climate Protection Grant ProgramTuesday, February 26th, 2008

On December 19, 2007, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board of Directors awarded $3 million in Climate Protection Grants to Bay Area local governments and nonprofits for implementation of innovative projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Over 80 applications for funding were received, reflecting a tremendous amount of interest in pursuing climate protection and a need for this type of funding. The Air District is impressed by the overwhelming response to this grant program, the high level of creativity and innovation in the applications, and the demonstration of leadership our region is providing for the rest of the country.

This $3 million represents the largest single source of funding available for climate protection projects in the Bay Area, and makes the Air District one of the top funders of climate protection activities in the country. Grants will go to local governments and non-profit organizations in all nine of the Bay Area counties.
