SLO County Greenhouse Gas Initiative for CitiesMonday, April 7th, 2008

SLO County Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Initiative for Cities:  Since the SLO County APCD Board approved the Climate Action Plan in November 2005, the District has been working with cities throughout the region to encourage local municipalities to develop local plans to reduce GHG emissions from their local government operations and throughout their communities.  On March 26, 2008 the APCD board furthered support to local jurisdictions by awarding $147,000 to assist cities in these efforts.  Of the total funding available, $10,000 was awarded to the Santa Lucia Chapter of the Sierra Club to implement a Technical Assistance Program to provide Cal Poly faculty and student resources to local cities as they develop inventories and action plans.  Once the GHG reduction plans are adopted, the remaining $137,000 will be awarded to individual cities and serve as seed money to assist with the implementation of GHG components included in their plans.
